Live Call Transfer
Ring a real team member, on their phone, in their browser, or both, and connect them to the caller.
Before you start: A routing rule must be set to transfer to a team member. See Call Routing and IVR.
How a transfer works
- Someone calls your business number and reaches the IVR.
- They choose to speak with your team, or a routing rule sends them there directly.
- Voice Dispatch rings the assigned team member on every channel they have set up at once: their phone number on file, and their browser tab if Browser Calling is turned on.
- The caller hears normal ringing the whole time, exactly like an ordinary transferred call.
- The instant the team member answers, on either channel, the caller and the team member are connected directly and can talk. Whichever channel answers first wins, and the other stops ringing automatically.
- If nobody answers within the configured time, the call falls back to voicemail.
Setting up Browser Calling
Browser Calling lets a team member answer a transferred call from a browser tab, with no phone number required. This is what makes it possible to route calls to a team member anywhere in the world, even where a business phone number is not practical to provide.
- Go to the Team page.
- Each team member sets this up for themselves only. Find your own name and select "Set up browser calling."
- Open the Receive Calls page from the sidebar, on desktop or mobile.
- Confirm the page shows a waiting state. This confirms you are ready to receive a transferred call.
- Leave that tab open. A transferred call rings directly into it, answerable with one click.
A team member can have a phone number, Browser Calling, or both active at once. If both, a transferred call rings on both simultaneously, and whichever is picked up first connects.
If a transfer does not connect
If the assigned team member does not answer within the configured ring time, on either channel, the call falls back to voicemail automatically. Check the Call Logs page afterward. Every attempted transfer shows its actual outcome: connected, no answer, busy, or failed, rather than a generic completed status.
